The pReview Re-viewing's
First Annual
Fantasy Box Office Draft!
First, a quick rundown of the idea:
The goal is to compile a roster of 15 actors and actresses (at least 5 actresses in an ironic attempt to prevent sexism) appearing in movies from April 4th, 2014 until the Friday before the People's Choice Awards in 2015 (TBA). As the weeks go on, each player's roster will accumulate money* based on how their actors' and actresses' films do opening weekend (a movie's 3 day gross from its Friday release date through Sunday at midnight (PST) based on information provided by The Numbers). The only stipulation is that, while some players may have actors or actresses appearing in the same movie, each player may only bank once on any given movie, no matter how many actors appear in it. (For instance, if you have Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson on your roster, you are only allowed to count Captain America: Winter Soldier once.. However, you do receive money for Chris Evans being in Captain America, A Many Splintered Thing, and 1:30 Train.. As well as Scarlett Johansson being in Lucy, AND Under the Skin-- You do not get additional money for Scarlett Johansson also being in Captain America because it was already banked by Chris Evans.) Money can also be acquired during weeks in which a player's roster appears in movies released in the same weekend as another player's roster.. A Combat Weekend! Whichever player's roster makes the most money in a Combat Weekend receives an additional $10,000,000 added to their year end box office total for each win.. Also, $5M for each unopposed victory. In the case of a tie, no money is awarded for that Combat Weekend.
(addendum: Limited Releases, Shorts, and Documentaries have 6 weeks to reach 500 theaters or have a major release date ANNOUNCED in order to be counted into any totals.)
In order to determine which teams make the playoffs, all teams' accumulated monies (weekend totals added with Combat Weekend winnings) are totaled and put up against one another.
The Playoff Arena will be the People's Choice Awards combined with the Golden Globe Awards, while the Grand Championship will take place during the 87th Academy Awards!
For the playoffs: All players battle it out, adding Award money to their Season totals to determine the two teams that make it to the Championship. For every actor/actress or movie in which anyone in your roster appears is nominated, you receive $50,000,000. If a movie in which anyone in your roster appears wins an award, you receive an additional $100,000,000. Additionally, if anyone in your roster wins an individual award for acting (Favorite Actor/Actress etc), you receive an additional $250,000,000!
The two highest grossing teams will compete head to head in the Championship during the Oscars with the same award scale. The winner will win the, already coveted, Oscar Goldmanstatueaward and have bragging rights for knowing movies better than anyone in the entire world for a full year!
*No actual money will ever be actually awarded to anyone. Ever.
